It has been just about a week ago we completed the trip with Larry and Janet. It was a very enjoyable trip seeing the various landscapes, mountains, deserts and ocean views. Although the roads were terrible in some places and super in other stretches, we came through without any damage. We were apprehensive as to the group we were to meet up with in Potrero, but our fears quickly subsided as our fellow travelers became as one family of caring folks. Example being, one rig suffered a broken spring which was temporary secured until it was replaced that evening at the stopover with a spare.
Our wagon masters Larry & Janet were the most wonderful folks, making everyone comfortable and a feeling of belonging together. They are sociable and helpful. They know the route well and were able to point out various landmarks as we traveled under their guidance. Every pothole, speed bump, stop sign, “big rig” was pointed out to keep us safe and legal. Rudy came down with a bad cold, medications were offered, a lot of sympathy and even a trip to the clinic was suggested. Kay on the other hand, got a thorn stuck in her foot. After failing to treat it ourselves, Janet loaded her and another very ill participant into the car to find a clinic, that was closed due to it being Saturday. A stop at the pharmacy for meds for the ill patient and back to the campsite. First thing Monday morning back to the clinic where Kay was treated. Because of unknown timing for treatment, as a group we decided to delay leaving Los Angeles. Their care is beyond the call of duty, and very much appreciated. They have a lot of responsibility and sometimes it caught up with them, but they were still pleasant, happy and didn’t miss a “Happy Hour”.
The camping facilities ranged from good to very primitive. This being said, we accepted the sites as they were. After all we are on an adventure in under-developed country. Boon docking is OK here and there. All that said, we did enjoy the trip very much as it is once in a lifetime experience. Larry and Janet are perfect for this job and we could not have imagined doing this trip with anyone else as our leader. They have knowledge of the Baja, the people, sights, cities and activities. The folks we met on this journey will be in our memories forever. It was hard to say our goodbyes after crossing the border.
Thanks for arranging this memory.
