The trip was absolutely amazing. It was everything I’d hoped it would be. It was a great introduction to Baja, and we plan to go back on our own over the next several winters. We had a fantastic group of fellow travelers; some of whom were already friends, and we made several new friends that we’ll see again.
As far as the itinerary, I think it was well organized. The crossing at Tecate certainly is calmer than at Mexicali, so it’s a great place to begin. Those first few days of driving every day got old, but I understand the reason–to get to the really good stuff in the south. My only suggestion might be adding a day or two to the tour to break up that first week of driving. I’m glad that Route 5 is open now; we’ll use it in the future to get south and north more quickly.
There were a few hiccups with campground services and group dinner dining options, but I think those had more to do with changes to establishments over the last two years due to COVID and/or continued staffing shortages. All part of the Mexico experience.
I cannot say enough good things about Lorne and Josie. We could not have asked for better wagon masters. Their knowledge of Baja is top-notch. Their people skills are also amazing. As you know, we experienced axle issues during the trip, and Lorne and Josie went above and beyond to assist us. I am so thankful we were able to stay with the group to the end. Lorne and Josie are special people and will always be special to me. Lots of lessons learned, but that’s what adventures and life are about.
Thanks for providing caravan tours to Baja. We’ll certainly recommend Baja Amigos to any of our friends that are interested.
