309 km/192 m – This is the your last full day and overnight stay in Mexico. We return to the Punta Vista RV Park (GPS 30.53556 N, 111.11642 W). The founders, Edgar & Anna passed away in the last couple of years and now Dora, (Edgar’s sister) is in charge. Dora has made major improvements and cleaned the place up. On arrival and set up the rest of the day and evening is yours, lots of eating options within walking distance or just relax in the campground. We selected this location to break up a very long day travelling from Guaymas to Nogales, AZ. In 2018, after a long drive, we spent several hours at the US crossing, this was a brutal experience. Hence tomorrow we are heading to the Lukeville crossing, often it takes less than 30 minutes to re-enter the US and we have found the border agents very friendly. You will also having the option to cross at Nogales if you prefer.
Santa Ana is a small with about 11,000 residents. Located 168 km/104 m north of the state capital Hermosillo and 100 km/62 mi south of Nogales. This settlement originated when the Pimas (indigenous people in northwest Mexico) settled in the area now called Santa Ana Viejo attracted by the mission established by the Jesuits. The present town of Santa Ana was founded by Diego A. Moreno in the year 1883, when the Sonoran Railroad was being built in this area of the state.
