371 km/230 miles – Another good start today as we are heading to yet another beach location, this time to an RV Park near San Blas. We return to Hwy 15D and just before Tepic we take the Tepic-San Blas Libramiento dropping down to sea level and Playa Matanchén. Our destination is the El Chaco Restaurant, Bar, Hotel and RV Park (GPS: 21.49430 N, 105.18774 W). We should be arriving just after lunch and have a fuel stop and body breaks planned. We will be here for the next 3 nights.
It is located in the municipality of San Blas 70.5 km away from the city of Tepic. The bay has an extension of 7 km with a width of 30 m of beach. The small town has nine collection centers for shrimp larvae whose production is sold to the farms established in the port of San Blas. Along with the port of San Blas and Las Islitas beach, the bay was a haven for pirates and buccaneers.
Archaeological remains have been found locally, these are tools of human manufacture that according to radiocarbon dating analysis places them between the dates of the years 2100 to 1800 AC. The evidence of the presence of these nomads are the oldest known in the the region, they correspond to the acerammic period and their culture is referred to as the Matanchén Complex.
