Desert Diamond Casino Sahuarita is one of the four Desert Diamond casinos located in Arizona, with the remaining three gaming facilities situated in Why, West Valley and Tucson. The Sahuarita-based casino is located south of Tucson, just off Interstate 9.
The entire Desert Diamond Casino enterprise is owned and operated by the Tohono O’odham Nation, including the venue situated in Sahuarita. The casino floor occupies 185,000 square feet and boasts over 600 slot and video poker machines, plus blackjack games and keno tables.
Historically, the O’odham inhabited an enormous area of land in the southwest, extending South to Sonora, Mexico, north to Central Arizona (just north of Phoenix, Arizona), west to the Gulf of California, and east to the San Pedro River. This land base was known as the Papagueria and it had been home to the O’odham for thousands of years.
