309 km/119 miles – This will be the first full day of your Mexican adventure as we head to San Carlos, Sonora just north of Guaymas. We continue south on Hwy 15D and our final destination is the Totonaka RV Park (GPS 27.96331 N, 111.02450 W); Dan & Lisa Goy first stayed here on a family vacation in 2002.
Of note is the larger city of Hermosillo, where we will take the bypass route (Autopista) around the outskirts of the city before rejoining Hwy 15D to San Carlos. Along the way we will have body breaks, and perhaps fuel stop where appropriate. At KM 139 we leave Hwy 15D and join the Libre Hwy 15, at KM 133 we exit north to Totonaka.
After we get settled folks are free to poke around and dip their toe into the Sea of Cortez, directly across the water in the town of Santa Rosalia in Baja California Sur. Baja Amigos will be hosting a Welcome to Mexico Dinner.
San Carlos, is popular with visitors from Arizona and Sonora however much of the coastal area, where the desert landscape meets the calm waters of the Gulf of California, is still undeveloped. San Carlos is an important destination for sport fishing with modern piers and 800 species that can be caught including tuna, sailfish, salmon and others.
