Monday, December 14th – Well we made it safe and sound on Saturday to Potrero County Park just outside San Diego. It was quite wet and foggy when we arrived, however the weather is much nicer now, sunny skies and warm. On Sunday we did some sightseeing locally and won $20 at the slots at the Golden Acorn Casino nearby.
We visited the Gaskill Brothers’ Stone Store Museum completed in 1885, learned about Camp Lockett and the Buffalo Soldiers, some further background on the local indigenous people , the Kumeyaay and visited the Campo Railway Museum and were very intrigued to learn about the San Diego and Arizona Railway. This railway was completed in 1919 and ran between San Diego, CA and Yuma , Arizona and criss-crossed the US – Mexican border rising from Sea Level to snow capped mountains then dropping dramatically below sea level with stops at Tijuana, Tecate and El Centro.
Today we have business in La Mesa and El Cajon, tomorrow we are off to Ensenanda, Mexico and make some additional preparations for our first caravan of the season January 3rd, 2010.
