September 27, 2010 – After 4 long days, 40 hours and speaking with 1000 people, Lisa and I have completed another BC Snowbird RV Show. As always, this was a great show for us engaging many current and future snowbirds and meeting with friends, some we have not seen since the last show. As you can imagine lots of questions about safety in Mexico given the recent travel advisory by the Canadian government. We had many present and past Mexico RVers share their stories of how much they love Mexico and look forward to making their return in a few weeks. The Saturday Vancouver Sun lead with a sensational front page story “Gunfire, mutilation and murder”, the good news is they were not talking about Mexico, the bad news is they were talking about Prince George, British Columbia. The reality is drugs, gangs and guns are pervasive in communities around North America and an RVer need not be fearful to visit Prince George, BC because of stories like this.
I was given an opportunity to speak at the Travel Mexico By RV Seminars, thanks to Mike and Terri Church and am pleased to report lots of interest and good attendance. John and Harriet Halkyard, who host the Discover Central America by RV Seminar, also had a good turnout which shows there is lots of interest in alternate snowbird destinations. We had a new exhibitor from Mexico at the show, Club Roca Azul RV Resort, located on Lake Chapala, in Jocotepepec, Jalisco, Mexico. I had the chance to meet the reps Dave & Sonia, from Port Alberni and the owner, Rafael. If you are on the mainland make sure you drop by and and try them out, the facilities look great and very affordable. We have added this RV resort to our LINKS page. As I said we had a great show and signed up some folks at the show and expect more in the weeks to follow.
